PATRIOTIC GARDEN PARTY.

The patriotic garden party promoted by Mrs Gower and held at her residence on Wednesday afternoon was a most successful function, and as a result of same the Ladies’ and Girls’ Guilds will each benefit to the extent of £l9 10s, the net reuslt of the party being £39. The weather conditions were not good, but there was a large attendance of the public, and the result is highly satisfactory. Mrs Gower organised the effort entirely on her own, and is to be congratulated on the success achieved. The following are the results of the competitions; —Number guessing (peacock lire screen), conducted by Miss Stella Robinson and Master Frank Procter. The correct number, 57, was guessed by Mr Eraser, Mrs Thompson, Miss Mackie and Mr Buuuard. Amount realised £3 18s Od. Bean guessing (Australian jackass lire screen), conducted by Master Willie Ross.' Master M. Kempster, Mrs Grant and Miss I. Austin, guessed the exact number, 150. Amount realised £1 2s 6d. The doll’s name guessing competition was won by Mrs Johnston, the name being “Ann.” Mrs Gower desires to thank all the little boys and girls who managed the various stalls so capably, and also the young laides who attended to the afternoon tea.
