The Manawatu Herald. TUESDAY, JANUARY 30. 1917. LOCAL STATE SCHOOL.
THE local State school re-opens on Thursday next, after the summer vacation. Parents should see to it that their children are in attendance on opening day, and not look upon Thursday and Friday as oif days for pupils and staff because school does not commence on a Monday. Every hour of the pupil's school time is of importance to its educational welfare, and every hour of school time represents a considerable sum of money to the State. Parents are apt to forget this fact. They would not forget it if they were called upon to pay directly for the education of their children. The Department demands from the staff full-time, conscientious service; the Wanganui Board is exacting improved results or the reas-
on why; while the Minister is at last making searching investigations into our primary system —not helore it was wanted. Keeping all these [joints in view, parents should realise how necessary it is for them to see that their children are regular and punctual in attendance. Owing to a falling off in attendance at the local school the staff will be reduced this year by one teacher. We don't want any further reductions. The Committee has done good work in making the school environment all that it should be, and is anxious that the pupils shall receive the full benefit of the primary course.
