FLAX SWAMP FIRE.

A fire broke out in Mr Geo. Seifert’s swamp at Tokornani yesterday, and between forty and seventy neres of (lax were burned. It is surmised the tire was kindled by a spark from u - passing locomotive. The Palmerston North Chamber of Commerce lasi night passed a resolution protesting to Mr Hiley, General Manager of Railways, againsl the department not having a proper system of patrol for Hax areas in the North Island, thereby jeopardising enormous areas of valuable country.
