MANAWATU COUNTY COUNCIL.

MONTHLY MEETING.

The ordinary monthly meeting of the Manawatu County Council was held on Wednesday. Present. Messrs H. H. Hunt (in the chair), W. J. Phillips, B. Gray, and S. Penny. ‘ CORRESPONDENCE. The inward correspondence was dealt with as follows: From the General Manager of Railways, notifying the Council that demurrage charge on railway trucks had been reduced to 5s per day. From the Wanganui Education Board, asking if the Council will consent to the reserve on which the Bainesse school stands being vested in the Board so that the latter may have power to enlarge the building, as required by the settlers. —The clerk was directed to reply (hat where the school stands is a road reserve, and as the procedure of vesting it in the Board would be both costly and slow it would be advisable for the Board to purchase a small school site and use the present school ground, with the consent of the Council, as a playground, horse paddock, etc. From the Foxton Harbour Board, with contribution of £l7 7s lid towards upkeep of Beach road. From A. J. Gibbs,. Foxton, offeringl to purchase old rails. None for sale at present. TRAMWAY MANAGER’S REPORT. The traffic for December was good, and a credit of £6O 10s Id was shown for the month’s working. The following arc Hie chief items of traffic: Minerals 217 tons, merchandise 1334 tons, metal 1,050 cubic yards, timber 10,700 feet, wool 666 hales, cheese 76j tons, sheep 124 trucks; fares amounted to £4 13s lOd. The repairs to side rod of locomotive Manawatu have been completed. The brasses of this engine have also been closed. The lefthand main steam pipe broke, and had to he replaced with a new one.
