FIRE.

DWELLING DESTROYED. A dwelling in Norbiton Road, owned by Air 11. Osborne, and occupied by Mr W. Smith, was totally destroyed by fire at about 10 o’clock on Saturday night. The origin of the outbreak is unknown, but Mr Smith was burning up rubbish and grass on the section during the afternoon, and it is believed that during’ the evening this fire broke out again, and spread to the building. There was no one in the house at the time, Mrs Smith and family having gone away by the morning train, and Air Smith was in Foxton. When discovered, the fire had a good hold, and practically nothing was saved. Fortunately there was no wind at the time, and a band of willing workers was able to prevent the fire spreading to Mr Stevenson's residence.

The building was insured for £3lO in the State Office, and the furniture for £2OO in the Northern.
