MARCONI ON COMING WARFARE.

The next war will most certainly be more scientific. Engines of destruction are bound to grow more enormous and fantastic, and Marconi has recently stated that electricity has great surpluses in store for us. Electricity bus infinite power, yet it has not yet been employed as an arm of destruction. “I don’t say avc shall see in the future, battlefields without guns, rifles, grenades, or bombs, hut theoretically it is possible. It is obvious that, if electrical apparatus could be invented to throw out Avaves such distances as to ignite poAvder, Ave should see some extraordinary things. One man placing two wires in contact might blow up battleships at sea, munition depots and arsenals in a single minute. Suddenly, as though with a magic Avand, ammunition boxes Avould bIoAV up on the battlefield and shells explode in the very mouths of guns. Cartridges Avould spontaneously go off in the soldier’s belt. This Avould mean a reversion to bayonets or SAVorcl fighting. I am,” announced Marconi in conclusion, “hoav Avorking on Avar inventions, and not on apparatus that Avill enable men to see through Avails, as has been said. My activities are being bent on things of more immediate value.”
