UNLAWFUL MEETINGS.

ADDITIONAL WAR REGULATIONS GAZETTED.

Powers to prohibit unlawful meetings—“meetings having reference to the war, and of a kind injurious to the public safety or the interests of His Alajesty in respect of war” —are given to the Commissioner of Police hy an ()rder-in-Couneil dealing with the matter read as follows: — “UN LA AYFUL AIEETIN GS. “6. If the Commissioner of Police is satisfied that any place is ahout to he used or is likely to lie used for the holding of any meeting or meetings having reference to the war, and of a kind injurious to the public safety or the interests of His Alajesty in respect of the war, the Commissioner may by notice prohibit the use of that place for meetings having reference to the Avar. “7. So long as any such notice remains in force with respect to any place, every meeting held in that place and having reference to the Avar shall, unless issued by the Commissioner of Police, he an unlaAvfnl meeting Avithiii the meaning and for the purposes of these regulations. “8. Every person avlio permits an unlaAvfnl meeting to be held in or upon any premises or land owned or ocenped by him shall lie guilty of an offence against these regulations, and shall he liable accordingly. “it. Every person, other than a constable or a person acting in aid of the police, avlio is present at an unlawful meeting, or who is a party to the holding of any such meeting, shall he guilty of an offence against these regulations, and shall lie liable accordingly. “POWERS OF POLICE CONSTABLES. “10. So long as any such notice remains in force Avilh respect to any place, a constable may at all limes by day or night, Avhen be lias reason to believe that any meeting is being or is about to he held in that place, enter upon that place and upon every part thereof, and any one avlio obstructs a constable in the exercise of tins right of entry shall lie guilty of an offence against these regulations, and shall he liable accordingly. “11. Every such notice shall he given cither by publishing the same in some neAvspaper circulating in the neighbourhood of I he place to Avhieh the notice relates, or hy publicly exhibiting the same at that place. Every person who without lawful authority removes or otherwise interferes wit'n any notice so exhibited at any time Avhile it remains in force shall be guilty of an offence against these regulations, and shall be liable accordingly.

“12. It shall he sufficient if any such notice issued in respect of any place sets forth that meetings having reference to the war are prohibited in that place under tlie Wur Regulations.

“13. Every sneii notice shall remain in force milil revoked by (he Commissioner of Police by a notice published in some newspaper circulating in the neighbourhood of the place to which it relates. “14. In these regulations — ‘Meeting’ means any assembly at which more than twelve per-

sons are present: ‘Place’ means a buliding, or a part of a building, or a. public place within the meaning of Part H. of ihc Police Offences Act, 1008, or a piece of land owned or occupied by any person.” A notification in reference to the dog registration fees appeal's in this issue.
