STATE SCHOOL PRIZE-GIVING.

The prize-giving ami breaking-up eeretnony in eonneelion with the local Stale school took place on Tuesday afternoon, in the school quadrangle. There, was a fair attendance of the parents and friends of the scholars. Owing to the many calls made upon the public for patriotic purposes, the Committee did not think it advisable to canvass for (he prize fund. Hooks and money contributions were voluntarily donated, and the prize-giving was held as usual. Mr ITornblow, chairman of Committee, distributed the prizes and briefly addressed those present, and on behalf of the Committee wished (lie scholars and staff tin* season's greetings. The head teachin', Mr .lackson, said the school had passed through a very successful year, and the utmost good feeling existed between all concerned. He paid a tribute to the work of the staff. Cheers were given by the children for the Committee, stall' and donors of prizes. The scholars subsequently adjourned to (he playground, where sports and scrambles were indulged in.
