BRITISH COAL OUTPUT
The return issued by the Board of Trade showing the output of eoal in the United Kingdom during the first hal£ of the year discloses an increase of 5-] 5,590 tons, or 0.4 per f'epl., as .compared .wjjth the eorresptmdwg perio.d of 3015, and this in spite of a decrease ip the number of men engaged in the mines. Thp improvement, which occurred in the June quarter to a sufficient extent to offset a falling off in the March quarter, was well distributed, only Yorkshire, Jypncashire, Cheshire, North Wales, and (the fpist of Scotland recording appreciable .decline*. Of the six months"’ total production of .128,155,000 itms 20,052,000 toms was exported, leaving 107,203,00!) tons, including 0,578,000 tops used by steamers in the foreign trade, for Home consumption. In the first half of 1915, of the output of 125,.559,00,0 tons 22,726,000 tons was leaving 102,833,000 tons, including 6,23i,5/0 tons used by the mercantile marine, to meep the Home demand.
