BALLOT FOR MILITARY SERVICE.

NAMES AVAILABLE THIS WEEK. The list of names of men drawn in the ballot for military service is being made in duplicate, and after careful cheeking, to correct any possible errors or omissions, will he cci-iiueil lo by the Magistrate. One copy will then be forwarded to the Defence authorities, who will attend to the gazetting and the service of, notices. The Magistrate will retain the other copy for the purpose of. making a final check. Before the list is published it will he forwarded to the Base Records (Mice, so (hat names of mini who may have enlisted, or have been declared medically niilil, may be “starred.” The .Military Service Act provides dial the names of men drawn in the ballot shall he ga dotted; so that those who are not liable for service cannot he excluded from Ihe list, instead, there will he an indication of (Intact that the men are cither serving, or, having been discharged or starred on account of medical nn!il ness, are not liable for service. When I In- list is reads- it will bo published in a special Gazette, probably to-day or Wednesday, and at the same lime oflieers commanding the recruiting districts will be furnished with the names of recruits in their areas and directed to advise (hem of their selection —iirst by telegram, and then by registered ]>ost. Each notice will be accompanied by a form of appeal, with instructions as to how the recruit is lo act if he wishes to have his ease considei’cd.
