CANADIAN PARLIAMENT HOUSE.

The corner-stone of the Parliament Building', Ottawa, which was laid by King- Edward 56 years ago, was relaid by his brother - , the Duke of Connaught, on September 2nd, in the presence of the Canadian Lieutenant-Governors, the Cabinet Ministers, and many distinguished Canadians. The Duke of Connaught said: “Fifty-six years ago my late lamented brother, afterwards King Edward VII., laid this corner-stone. It is an unique occasion when it is possible for a brother, after an interval of over half a century, to lay again the same foundation-stone. Canada is nobly supporting the fight for honour, liberty, justice, and humanity. Who, 56 years ago, could have imagined that Canada could raise over 350,000 men? Every Canadian must he proud of their record and of 1 lit* fact that they held their own against the best-disciplined troops in Europe. They bad distinguished themselves in many hard-fought battles, lighting side by side with men from all parts of the Empire who share the same ideals.”
