BUTTER IN AUSTRALIA.
THE retail price of baiter in Australia from October 30ib will be practically the same as ilia| fixed in Xew Zealand. The price for bulk butter has been lived a 1 Is (id per Hi., cash over the counter, but butler specially packed in prints may be sold at Is (i.UI. An extra Ad may be charged for booking, and another for delivery —making the total price Is 7Ad. Owing to the special inducements now existing to export or sell for export, the Commonwealth (lovernment has decided to place all manufaclurers on an equitable basis by requiring each fac< Lory to contribute its quota lo the current Australian requirements, lit the event of any factory not making available for Commonwealth consumption, its proportion of its best quality butter the Minister for Customs has given instructions that, permission to export any butter by such factory shall be refused. Butler manufacturers will be advised from lime to time through the Collector of Customs of the percentage, of their output required io meet consumption within the Commonwealth for the carrying out of the arrangement. Each butter factory will he required’to furnish a weekly return of tin- butter manufactured, selling forth the number of boxes of butler and the respective classes in each Stale. A local committee, representative of the producing interests and of the wholesale trade generally, will advise' periodically as to the percentage of butter required for Australian consumption.
