MOTORING FATALITY.
CAR FALLS OVER CLIFF. WELL-KNOWN INSURANCE MAN KILLED. An accident occurred between 5 and (i o’clock last evening in Palmerston North, which resulted in the death of a well-known representative of the National Mutual Insurance Company, Mr William Forbes, and serious injury to two ladies. Air Forbes was driving in u twoseater cur along Fllzroy street towards the Ahmawatu river, where lhe roadway ends abruptly at the top of a cliff forty feet high. Mr Forbes was not acquainted with the locality, and so drove straight, on. through a gale, which is usually (dosed to prevent traffic reaching (lie dangerous spot hut was on this occasion left open. The c;rr fell to (he river-bed, and Mr Forbes was killed outright, his bend being badly crushed. Of the. two ladies with him —the Misses Sullivan —one was rendered unconscious by the fall. The other escaped with a shaking, and climbed the cliff to summon aid. Having done (his, she was returning to her stricken sister and fell over the declivity, breaking u wrist, and suffering ether serious injuries. Both ladies were reported at a late hour last night to be in a critical condition. The deceased was a man of singularly handsome physique, wellknown in insurance circles all over the North Island, and particularly in Wellington and Palmerston North. He was 3!) years of age. An inquest was held to-day.
