IT may prove of some consolation to those l “unfortunate l " people- who are likedy to be 1 affected by the incidenem of the* pemding war-time profits tax, to know that such legislation is not peculiar to the British Empire l , nor even to the belligerent countries. The Spanish Minister of Finance recemtly elelivcrcd a speech in whiedi he 1 reTcrre-el lo the 1 bael condition of the l linanecs of the 1 country. In order to wipe l away a very substantial elelicil, Imavy taxation has beam re-sorted to, a net a bill has just beam introeluced whereby “a elireel contribution is established on the e-xl raorelinary prolils (dilaineal by companies of all kinds, by nmichanls anel private inelivieluals, and by foreigne-rs anel foreign companies doing business in Spain.” All profits exceeding those l establishes! sine-e 1 July, 1015, are e-onsiehu'eal as “e-xtraorelinary prolils." The taxation imposed varies from 25 lo 40 pe-r cent, of the prolils so described.
