EFFECT OF TRENCH STRAIN.
A MEMORANDUM on Hie question of trench strain was read at the Newcastle meeting' of (lie British Association, from Dr (rwvnne Mailland, wlio, during the war in Serein, had special opportunities for observation on accumulated fatigue in warfare. He stated dial h had been found that long-continued trench strain resulted in eases of breakdown which, certainly recovered after a period of rest, but such cases were left wilh a shorter period of utility on their return to the trenches, and on breaking down again were groquently discharged as of no further use. It became a matter of the greatest urgency that with this ahilily and with the growing delicacy of perception in the anticipation of the breaking point a greater discretion might he employed to prevent it.
