The Manawatu Herald. THURSDAY, OCTOBER 26, 1916. PALMERSTON AND FOXTON.
IX returning thanks to the lion. Dr Mc.X’ab for his address at the rettimed soldiers' social at Palmerston on Tuesday even inn 1 , Mr M. Cohen referred to the faet that the Minister had been delayed by the train not running- to time, and said he hoped that in a few years these difficulties of transit would be overrulin'. He looked forward to the lime when they would have a fast packet service by sea from Wellington to Foxtail, and I hen an express or electric train from that port: to Palmerston. This, continued Mr Cohen, would obviate 1 the little inconveniences such as the doctor had to put up with that evening. The remarks, according to our Palmerston evening contemporary, were received with laughter and applause. Possibly Mr Cohen may have been in a facetious mood when he spoke but we are inclined to think that as a far-seeing man Mr Cohen took a glimpse beyond his nose, and his utterance may he more prophetic of what will really come to pass in the not far distant future than those present at its utterance imagined. If Palmerston continues to progress in the 1 fullin' al the same rale as in (he past, the Foxlon port will he its principal commercial artery and the seaside its pleasure resort. The lime will come when Foxlon will become pari of (Irealer Palmerston.
