Bates wires as follows at noon to-day : The indications are for variable and strong breezes, but southerly strong winds lo gale prevailing after about Id hours; heavy rain is to be expected, and rivers Hooded; the weather will probably become colder. Barometer rising shortly; seas heavy, tides high.
