BOWLING.
After a postponement of a week in the date of the official opening of the bowling green, on account of rain, the local Club was not any more fortunate yesterday afternoon, the unfavourable weather preventing any play taking place on the green. Had the weather conditions boon favourable, a very large crowd would have no doubt been present, as visitors were expected from ail the neighbouring clubs. The committee yesterday decided not to again postpone the opening, ami the president (Mr U. Whibley) formally declared the season open. Afterwards those present were entertained by the Chib at afternoon lea. The green is in good order, drawing equally well on both “hands,’’ and the season promises to be ft very suecossful one, from every point of view. On Monday next (Labour .Day) a four or five rink match is being arranged between (he local club and a team representing the Levin, Gtaki and Shannon Druids. Tin* details are now being arranged, and furl Iter particulars will appear in Salnrdav r s issue.
