METHODIST CHURCH.

Tlie quarterly meeting of (he Koxton circuit of the Methodist Clmreh was lield at the parsonage, Foxlon, on Wednesday evening hist. There was a full attendance of offieials, Shannon being represented by Mr Gibson. Favourable reports were received of the progress both of the local and Shannon Sunday schools. It was reported that a Junior Christian Endeavour had been formed at Fox (on under the charge of Miss Signal, and a fair attendance of children had been attained. The linancial aspect of (he circuit was reported as being exceedingly promising. During the past quarter, largely hy the efforts of the minister, Rev. W. Rowe, the circuit debt had been considerably reduced, and it was anticipated that lids welcome condition of affairs would be maintained. An unanimous resolution was passed extending to Ihe Rev. W. Rowe a very hearty invitation to remain for a third year, and in doing this, several present spoke of the good work done hy Mr Rowe, and said they fell sure that the aeceplanee of (his invitation would give general satisfaction. The Rev. Rowe, in reply, expressed Ids gratitude at the kind feelings eppressed hy the meeting, and stated that he would he pleased to accept the invitation, and trusted that his third year would be greatly blessed. It was arranged that. Messrs J. Cbryslall and id. Walker should act as lay representatives at tlu* approaching District Synod, to lie held al Palmerston North. It was moved that a vole of thanks bo accorded to Mr Stiles for his long and

faithful services es circuit steward. During the past fifteen years Mr Stiies has occupied that position, and it is due in a very largo measure to ids untiring efforts and wise counsel (hat the church is in such a

satisfactory position to-day. It was decided, as requested, to take up a retiring collection during the forthcoming quarter, at a dale to he arranged, in aid of the Methodist Orphanage Pnnd. The claims of this deserving institution for public support cannot he too strongly emphasised, and it is hoped that a liberal response will result from this appeal. It was also decided that steps he taken in the direction of increasing (lie minister’s stipend to £IBO per annum, and consideration was given to Ihe fact that the increased cost of living is fell by pastor as well as people.
