PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH.
The quarterly meeting of the district. Committee of the Foxton charge of the Presbyterian Church was held in the Glen Oroua church, on Tuesday, at 11 a.m. Present: Rev. Jas. IT. Brcdin (moderator), Messrs Alex. Speirs, T. Henderson, J. McColl, Hornhlow, Ronton (Foxton), H. AVilton, McCauley, Low, Ingley (Rangiotu), Amon, Farmer and Costall (Glen Oroua). Mr Costall reported upon the tenancy of the church section at Rongotca, and it was resolved that the treasurer submit a statement of rent due to the (enanl. A report was submitted re fencing and improvements at the manse property, at a cost of £ls, The report was adopted and accounts re same passed for payment. The treasurer’s quarterly statement was read and received, and disclosed a credit balance of £l7 7s. Several accounts were passed for payment, and the state of the linanecs were favourably commented upon. In speaking on this subject, Mr Speirs hoped that an effort would ho made within the next twelve 1 months to wipe off the existing church debt of £IOO. The remarks were endorsed by other members. A vote of thanks was accorded Mr Costall for donation to petrol fund, and to Mr Renton and an anonymous donor and Mr R. N. Speirs for work done at the manse. Mr McCauley asked that the Moderator withdraw in order to allow the Committee to discuss a certain subject. After the Chairman’s withdrawal, Mr McCauley said the Committee should consider the question of a war bonus to their minister. After some discussion, it was unanimously agreed to present the minister with a purse of sovereigns and £ll 5s was subscribed in tho room for (hat purpose, and arrangements made to complete the gift. It was decided to make the presentation at a social gathering to he held in Foxton on the 3.lst inst.
Mr AVilton gave notice to move at the next quarterly meeting, to bo held at Rangiotu on the second Tuesday in January, that three meetings instead of four be held unusually. Other minor business was transacted, after which the delegates wore hospitably entertained at lunch by Mcsdames Amon and Parmer.
