“OUR PICTURES.” “THE FIGHTING PARSON.” In the current star item, “The Disciple,” AA’illiam S. Hart has a, powerful and congenial role as a, frontier missionary. The story is that of a strong, pure enthusiast, who is mated to a pretty woman without strength of character. Dorothy Dalton, as the wife, brings out interestingly the personality of the non-moral, shallow creature, who leaves her little girl and virile, worthy husband for the flashy gamblertype, of saloon-keeper (Robert McKitm). The little daughter is charmingly played by diminutive Thelma. Salter. Charles K. French is convincing as the square, courageous Birdshot Givens. Hart commands and holds attention from the start, when he* appeal's as the ascetic and visionary frontier missionary of Barren Gulch. Ho is powerful by his restraint, as well as by his facial expressions, when he appears as a man awakening to a. bad dream after he hears of his wife’s elopement. There is a. great (dimax in the last scene, where the husband compels “Doc.” Hardy to accompany him to his cabin at the point of his gun, and another when he is tempted to Hioot the violator of his home, but thrusts it aside on seeing the vision of the Crucified.
FRIDAY AND SATURDAY. “MY MADONNA.” A programme of quite an original nature will lie screened at the Town Hall on .Friday and Saturday, also at the Matinee, including a 5,000 ft. Metro photoplay, “My Madonna,” featuring tin' invincible Olga Petro-* va ; also a 4,500 ft. World feature Him, “Bought.” it (-an honestly be said that no sneli combination of star pictures have ever been shown at one screening in any theatre in "New Zealand, and the picture-lov-ing public should avail themselves of this exceptional opportunity of seeins what is really two programmes in one. In “My Madonna” we have the versatile actress, Olga Petrova, who appears to great advantage as an artist's model. The quality of Metro Pictures ,and the beauty and popularity of Madame Petrova are so well known that it is quite unnecessary to go into the details of this remarkable production. In “Bought’' we have another exceptionally strong’ feature film. The story is of intense human interest, involving’ a strange problem, the solution of which is worked out in a most interesting and impressive manner. It is a drama of unusual power, and the acting is exceptionally line. Mr Frederick Lewis, in the leading role, presents a virile type of hero, and acts with conspicuous ability throughout. To him and to Miss Plthel Grey Terry much of the credit of a successful production is due. A fine series of war pictures will also be shown, including some quite remarkable views taken from the trenches, and of shell-shattered Ypres.
