DEVOIN SENTENCED.
\ IMPRISONMENT 808 LIEE. Wellington, Oct. A Ernest Bevoiu was sentenced to imprisonment for life for the manslaughter of Louisa White, whom he had promised to marry, though he was already married. In sentencing Devoin, Mr Justice Chapman said the task imposed on him was one of satisfying the public nonscience. He avus satisfied that he avus not dealing Avith an ordinary man, but a dangerous man, one not fitted’to be a member of a community in Avhich girls such as deceased lived. ■ The only Avay to discharge the duty cast on him avus to sentence the prisoner to be imprisoned with hard labour for the rest of his life.
