The Board e>f Education, after a lively elise-ussion, appointed a relurneel seilelicr as clerk, at £15(1 a. year, in prefereue-e te> a young man whose qualifications were admitted, but whe> was of military age. There were nine applicants. Replying to a suggestiem that a woman inspected of schoeds should he appointed for the Auckland district, tii.e Education Department replied that the Act provided for the employment of female inspectors to look after matters specially pertaining to girls and infant, work. This had not been lost sight of, but as such inspectors could not take the place of inspectors at present employed, bat would he supplementary the time did not appear opportune for such an extension.
