PRISONERS OF WAR.
THEIR PAY TO CONTINUE. Special regulations defining the position'of prisoners of Avar and interned soldiers as regards pay, etc., have been adopted by Defence Headquarters. They ma.ket.he following provisions:— 1. A soldier shall not forfeit his right to pay during the period of his absence as a prisoner of Avar unless it shall be proved before a court of enquiry, convened by order of the General Officer Commanding, that such soldier Avas taken prisoner through neglect or misconduct, on his oavu part. In that case be shall forfeit any balance of pay unissued to him during the period of imprisonment.
2. The issue of pay to a soldier Avhile a prisoner of Avar must depend on circumstances. On rejoining, no further issue Avill be made until it has been decided Avhether a court of enquiry shall be held. If such court is held, and decides that the soldier avus taken prisoner through his oavu neglect or misconduct, he Avill forfeit any balance of pay unissued at the date of rejoining. In all other cases the unissued balance Avill be paid to (lie man. 3. A soldier Avho has been a prisoner of Avar Avill not be credited Avith messing alloAvance for tlit* period of his captivity, but those already drawing field alhwance Avill continue to be eligible for it. 4. All issues of pay and field allowance will be subject to adjustment eventually in respect of any pay received by the soldier from the enemy Avhile a prisoner of Avar. Due notification Avill be given of any altera tioa in these instructions consequent on any arrangement made Avith (he enemy Governments.
5. The additional pay of Adjutants and all additional and extra duty pay granted for the performance of specific duties Avill cease to be issuable from the date on Avhich the soldiers become prisoners of

AWotmerits of pay: Allotments of pay made by a soldier who has been taken prisoner of Avar Avill continue to be issued unless and until it shall be proved before a court of enquiry referred to in section 13(1, Field Service Regulations, Part If., that such soldier was taken prisoner through neglect, or misconduct on his oavu part. The decision on the report of the court of enquiry Avill be communicated Avithout delay to the Officer in Charge of Records, avlio will inform the Paymaster paying the soldier’s unit. 7. Separation alloAvance Avill continue to be issued in all ('uses, irrespective of the opinion of the court of enquiry, until the soldier is discharged from the Expeditionary Force. 8. The aboA'e rules shall also be applicable to soldiers Avho are interned. The Avord “soldier” includes officers.
