PEACE WITHIN A YEAR.

CITY MAN’S OFFER OF “EVEN MONEY.’’

London, July 28

“Even money,’’ is apparently the City’s opinion of the chances of peace being declared on or before ■June 30th, 1917. That, at least, was the deduction by experts at the Mart, Tokenhouse-yard, yesterday afternoon, when Messrs H. E. 'Foster and Cranfield offered a Lloyd’s policy for £5,100 to pay a total loss if peace Ims not- been declared by that date.

The policy was not sold, but only after the bidding had beam carried to more than £2,500 was the lot withdrawn. The policy was effected last November for less than £2,500, so that the chances of peace in the opinion of the Cily have improved since then.

“It was an almost unprecedented sale,” said the auctioneer to a Daily Express representative subsequently. “I do not remember ever hearing of such a policy being offered for sale by auction, and it is a very long time since (he big room at the Marl held such a large crowd oof City men. I have offered ail sorts of funny things in the way of investments in my time, but. this Peace at Your Own Price policy was quite a novelty to me.”
