KVKBY man of military age in Great Britain who had not boon exempted l)eeaim' automatieally enrolled in the army on July '2-1, and unless he reported himself lie avus liable to lie arrested as a deserter. If a man was over 41 or under IS on June 2-1 last lie was not required lo report. Attested men, or those holding’ eerlilieales of exemption, Avere in a similar position. But all unaltested men who had applied for exemption had to notify the fact to their recruiting officer if they wished to escape trouble. The police Avere empowered to ask any man lor Ids registration or exemption card, anil the recruiting officers had the right to publish the name and last knoAvn address of any man liable to serve avlio could not be traced. A concession was made to special constables. Any man in (he force who had received his classification card from (he military authorities staling that he was passed for garrison duty or other work at home was exempted from Army Service, provided that he was over 25 years of age and married. Special constables holding the rank of a subinspector or any higher grade were also exempt.
