RUSSO-JAPANESE TREATY.
The following is the text of the treaty recently concluded between Russia and Japan “The Imperial Government of Japan and the Imperial Government of Russia resolve to continue their efforts for the maintenance' of a lasting pence in the Ear East, and have 1 agreed upon (he following;—Article L: Japan will not be a party to any political arrangement or combination contracted against Russia. Russia will not be a parly to any political arrangement or combination directed against Japan. Arilcle 2; In the event of the territorial rights or special interests in the Ear East of one of (he contracting’ parties recognised by the other contracting party being threatened Japan and Russia will consult with each other on (be measures to be taken, with a view to support and co-operation being given to ope another for the safeguarding and defence of those' rights and interests.” The British Government has expressed its satisfaction with this treaty of alliance.
