Kohinson, Austin-Johnston, Healey, Hemmingsen, John Ross, E. Robinson, A. S. Easton, Purcell, Moore, Jns. Stevenson, T. Easton, McLeod, Kruse, Kellow, E. De Ridder, Misses Woodroofe, Xeylon, Speirs, Messrs Eoe, Kockell, Walsh, Xeylon, Svines, and W. Ross.

The competition for Miss Woodroofe’s cake was won by Mr Bullard, and for Mis Chas. Robinson’s cake by Mrs Gower and Messrs Ilornhlow and Guy Edwards. The Society has decided to donate the takings of next Saturday to the Christmas Gifts Fund, now being raised by the Countess of Liverpool’s Committee in Wellington. The following letter lias been received from (he secretary, Mrs H. S. Crawford: —“As the time is drawing near to think of Christmas gifts for our soldiers, we venture to appeal for your assistance. We propose to send 7,(00 parcels for general distribution among the men abroad. This forms the quota for the Wellington Military Area, of 1 which you form part. Each parcel is to contain .1 pair of socks, 1 tin of potted meat or meat extract, 1 tin of sweets, 1 tin condensed milk, a handkerchief, soap, and a Christmas pudding, the total value being roughly about 5/-. The Gear Meat Company have made a handsome donation of 5,000 tins of potted meat for the parcels. The plum puddings, which will be in tins, will be made by our committee and workers. The Wellington Meat Export Company, who have generously promised to make a gift of 2,500 puddings, have also offered to cook and tin the remaining 4,500 for ns. One shilling provides a pudding neatly done up in butter paper in a tin. The Mayoress, Mrs J. P. Luke, President of this Fund, is

proposing to visit some of the country districts to explain and further the objects of this scheme. She will be at your centre early in September, if that will be convenient to you. Hoping that you will find any information that Mrs Luke can give you useful to you in your efforts, etc.’’

Mcsdames John Robinson and Harvey will superintend operations and have been promised a sheep by Dr Wall for a weight-guessing competition. The sheep will be on view at Mr Woodroofe’s shop on Friday and Saturday, when guesses may bs

registered,

Competitions will also he arranged for three sacks of coal given by Mr W. Nye and one dozen postcard photographs of the winner, his or her wife, husband, sweetheart" or ehild, taken by Mr Ernest Huntley. All arrangements are in order for the Patriotic l Concert to-night, the dual rehearsal last night being a great success. The dressing and stage arrangements promise to he eery striking. The Borough Band will parade and play selections in front of the Hall, and inside two lollie stalls, supervised by Airs Preston and assistants will dispense sweets. The booking is heavy, and a number of seats jn the front stalls are for sale at two shillings each. The whole of the proceeds will be devoted to the Naval Heroes’ Dependents’ Fund. The monthly meeting of the Patriotic Society will be held ou Thursday, the 14th September, at 7.30 p.m., at the Council Chambers.
