HEMP FREIGHTS.

In view of the substantial increases in the freight on hemp which come into force to-morrow, the rises that have taken place during the past three years are interesting. The following were the freights at the times stated: — October Ist, 1913, £4 5s Od per ton. November Ist, 1914, £3 5s Od per ton. May 15th, 1915, £4 per ton. February 2nd, 191fi, £7 per ton. September Ist, 191 (5. £lO per ton. For November, 1914, May and October, 1915, a war surcharge of 25 per cent, was added to the freights. The present charge of £lO per ton is subject to a primage fee of 10 per cent., bringing the total to £ll.
