ADVANCE SHANNON.

Al a largely attended public meeting at Shannon last night, it was decided to take the necessary steps to have the township formed into a borough. The following were elected a committee to carry out the details; Messrs Hillior, Gunning, Far-gil,-i r, S, W. Carter, Lanrvig, Spencer, Murdoch, and Murray. Mr Hillier presided, and Mr IV. H. Field. M.P., was in attendance, and spoke in support of the movement. Mr F. Honnessy was strongly urged to give a lead in Hie negotiations, but reluctantly had to refuse, owing to his time being fully taken mi with Harbour Board matters.

The movement is hacked by practically all the townspeople, and it is anticipated that Shannon will soon lie merged into a borough and works will be undertaken to remove the present unhealthy condition of the settlement.
