VANITY AND A RING.
GIRL CHARGED WITH THEFT
Personal vanity Avas responsible for a prepossessing young girl being brought before Mr F. V. Fraser, S.M., in the Auckland Juvenile Offenders’ Court last Friday, on a charge of stealing a diamond and ruby ring. .She tearfully admitted the charge. Chief-Detective McMahon stated that the girl had been employed at a boardinghouse, and Avhile there had stolen the ring. When the loss of it Avas discovered she handed it over to another girl. HoAvever, avlioii taxed AA'ith the theft she Avas quite frank about the matter.
In reply to a question as to Avhy the girl had taken the ring, the chief deteetiA'e stated that in vlcav of the fact that he girl used paint and powder to add to her charms, there avus little doubt that the ring Avas taken to he used to satisfy her personal vanity.
The probation officer , reported that the girl bore a good character. In convicting the girl and order-
ing lier to come up for sentence if , called upon within six mouths, His Worship impressed upon her the folly of endeavouring to adorn herself at other people’s expense, and told her that men did not think so much of jewellery and paint and powder as long as a girl kept herself nicely and behaved well.
