FOXTON’S RAILWAY TIMETABLE.
CONFERENCE AVI Til TRAFFIC MANAGER. SUGGESTED A LTERATIONS. For some time past the local Borough Council lias been agitating for an improvement in the EoxtonPalmersfun North railway timetable, and reeently convened a public. ineel big to discuss the mat ter, at which the following resolution was passed: —“That this public meeting of residents of Foxton and Manawatn Heads respectfully urge that the existing train service be amended as follows: The 8.45 a.m. train be altered to leave Foxton at 8 a.m. daily, and on Mondays to return from Palmerston North at 10 a.m., in lime to reach Himatangi for slock salt- at noon; Hie daily 3 p.m. train to leave Foxton at 2.20 p.m. and reach Palmerston North at 4 p.m., in time to connect with the Auckland express leaving Palmerston North at 4.25 p.m.; the daily 5.35 p.m. (rain from Palmerston North to Foxton to leave Palmerston North at 4.45 p.m., and reach Foxton at (5.30 p.m.” Last; night Mr J. E. Armstrong, traffic manager at AVanganui, visited Foxton to meet members of the Borough Council and discuss the suggested alterations. There were present at the meeting: The Mayor (Mr A If. Eraser), and Crs Freeman and Stevenson.
Air Armstrong said he could not recommend all the suggestions made. If the afternoon train was to leave Foxton at 2.20 o’clock it would be necessary for it to arrive here earlier than 1.15 p.m., as the Department must have time for shunting, and at least, an hour and a-half was required for this. Ho would suggest (bat (lie afternoon train leave Foxton in time to connect with the Auckland express on three days a week, and on the other three days to leave at the same time as at present. The evening train from Palmerston North could leave earlier on the days that the Auckland connection was made, and at the same time as at present on the other days. He was quite in accord with the suggestion that the morning train should leave Foxton at eight, o’clock daily, and would strongly recommend an alteration in that direction, which he considered would meet with Iho approval of all concerned. After some discussion Mr Armstrong said he would recommend (he following altera! ions : Monday's, AVednesdays anil Fridays: Leave Foxton S a.m., arrive I’a linerslon !l.3() a.m.; leave Palmerston 3 0 a.m., arrive Foxton 11.35 a.m.; leave Foxton 2.20 p.m., arrive Palmerston 4 p.m.; leave Palmerston 4.45 p.m., arrive Foxton 6.20 p.m.
Tuesdays ;iml Thursdays: iv<? on S a.in., arrive Pahnerston 9.30 a.m.; leave Palmerston 11.35 a.in., arrive Pox(on 1.15 p.m,; leave Poxlon 3 p.m., arrive Palmerston 4.-10 p.m.; leave Palmerston 5.35 p. in., arrive Poxlon 7.15 p.m.
Saturdays; Leave Poxton S a.m., arrive Palmerston 9.30 a.m.; leave Palmerston 11,35 a.m., arrive Pox ton, 1.15 p.m.; leave Poxloii 3 p.m., arrive Palmerston 4.-10 p.m.; leave Palmerston 8.35 p.m., arrive Poxlon 10 p.m. Mr Arms trou<; said the above were, of course, approximate times. The delaying' of the Saturday night train by half an hour would allow passengers from Wanganui, Tallin pe, and Waipukurau to connect with it. it would also allow passengers to get to Wanganui and back in one day. Mr Armstrong .asked that the above suggestions should be submitted to a full meeting of the Council for their consideration.
