OBITUARY.

FREDERICK WILLIAM FRANKLAND, AGED 02 YEARS.

A letter was received from New York this week notifying (he death on July 271 h., of our late esteemed townsman, F. AV. Frankland Esq., J.P., at the age of 02 years. About three months prior to his death the late Air Frankland underwent an operation for the removal of gall stones, and although the operation was successful, other complications set in which finally resulted in bis death. The deceased gentleman was the son of the late Sir Edward Frankland, an eminent English scientist, who was the associate of the Darwin-Huxlev-Tyndntl coterie, and was horn in Manchester, England, on April ISlh, 1851. He was educated at Iho University College School ami the London University. Me came to New Zealand and entered (he Civil Service in 1876. He was connected with the Government Insurance Department for fourteen years, in 187 S lit; was appointed, actuary for Friendly Societies, and in 1831 he became actuary of the Government Insurance- Department and Registrar uf Friendly Societies.
