recommendation by grand JURY. After the Grand Jury had deliberated on the indictments placed before them in the Wellington Supreme Court on Monday, and returned them to the Chief Justice with their verdict, the foreman {Mr C. B. Norwood) handed the following written recommendation to the court; —• We, the grand jury of August 1910, sessions, Wellington Supreme Court, view with concern the number of sexual offences against children of tender years, and are of opinion that some amendment of the Criminal Code . is desirable to meet such cases. We are therefore of opinion that, in addition to imprisonment in extreme cases the penalty should be of such a surgical nature as would prevent a repetition of such offence. His Honour said that there was an enactment in the United States of America similar to the recommendation by the Grand Jury. The recommendation would be forwarded on to the Government as requested. After thanking the jury, His Honour discharged them.
