TWO-UP AT FEILDING.

We take (he following from the Fed ding Star:-*~ “A two-up gang front some outside town has been in the habit of paying regular weekly visits to Feilding, and conducting operations with deadly effect. “It is natural that the gang would not proclaim itself from the chimney stacks, and would carefully select if-s victims, but certain informatit*i has leaked out which proves that the cold and calculating gambling devils who run the

school have been only too successful.

“Saturday was the day chosen for the appearance of the gang, and every week-end a number arrived and spread the net near a large building where a considerable number of men have been employed. The kip, the double-header, and all the paraphernalia of the diabolical game were employed with the demoniacal skill against which the gull has no chance. The gang even requisitioned a motor car with which to collect the “Jlies” for the web. “The damnable success attending - the methods of flic school are very plainly illustrated in the following episode. ,xV young man, not for long a resident- of Feilding, holding a position of responsibility, and one in which he had a. splendid chance to increase his usefulness and improve his prospects, had cast over him in some way the glamour of the serpents running the school, and these reptiles even sent a motor to carry him off to the lambing down hell. Of course it was no time before the unfortunate hoy was away behind in his finances. The result, only too natural, was that he embezzled his employer’s funds, and has disappeared, his life ruined and his parents brokenhearted.

“In another ease it is reported that a man lost £BO to the gang in one session of the school.

“No doubt the police will use every possible effort to bring the members of the gang to justice. The spoilers, however, will be hard to catch. It is to he hoped that any civilians who are in a position to belli the police will do so. It is the duty of every resident to help rid the town of this soul-destroying scourge even more than in the ease of s«me physical disease.”
