SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

The monthly meeting of the Foxton State School Committee was held on Tuesday evening. Present : Messrs Hornblow (chairman), Rev. J. H. Bredin, T)r. Mandl, Betty, Hussey, MeCol!, Pcrreau and McMurray (secretary). The head teacher’s report was road, also a report to the head tea< her from the supervisor of agriculture for the southern district. The former report suggested that a bicycle stand should be erected and that Mr Pirani, who recently visited the school had suggested that an estimate of cost for same should be obtained and forwarded to the Board. Certain minor repairs were also mentioned as requiring attention.

It was resolved that the secretary obtain an estimate for bicycle stand, and forward same to the Board. It was also resolved that the repairs mentioned be attended to. Re the supervisor’s report to the head teacher’, Dr. Mandl said he would move that a vote of appreciation be passed to the staff on the excellent report received in connection with the gardens and environment.

The R <>v. Bredin asked whether the report was of a confidential nature, and whether it should not first be considered by the Board before being dealt with by the Commitee.

Dr Mandl said the report was before the Committee and was not confidential, and the public should know that good work was being done in connection with the gardens and environment. The Committee was responsible for the school environment.

The Chairman said flic report was fo the head teacher, and by courtesy of the head teacher it was before the Committee. The Board’s annual report to the Committee would embody what was contained in the report. There was no reason why the Committee should not pass Dr. Mamil’s resolution. The resolution was seconded by Rev. Mr Brodin and carried.

It was resolved to ask the Council to allow its overseer to report as to the best method of dealing with surface water on the school ground at the rear of the building. Accounts were passed for payment.

Messrs McMurray and Perreau were appointed visitors for the month.
