FOXTON PATRIOTIC SOCIETY.

The Patriotic Shop was opened again as usual last Saturday, under Mi’s Greig and Miss J. Ross, when more than average business was done. Gifts are acknowledged from the following: Mesdames A. Ross, Greig, W. Ross, Kellow, King, John Robinson, John Ross, Jas. Stevenson, Boyden, G. Rough, A. S. Easton, Miss Speirs, Messrs Grant, Purrie, Frank Robinson, Hughes, Woodham, W. Nyc, Rimmer, Huntley, M. 11. Walker, Greig, C. Spiers.

The white Leghorn eoekrel presented by Mr M. 11. Walker was disposed of by means-of a competition to guess the weight of the bird, and very keen interest was taken. The. correct weight was 41bs 7ozs, and Mesdames Frank and Jas. Robinson and Miss L. Edwards guessed libs Boz, and in the draw the bird was won by Mrs Jas. Robinson. Next Saturday the shop will be under the supervision of Mesdames John Robinson and Harvey. The first rehearsal for the patriotic concert to be held during the first week in September, was held on Monday night, and Mr Aitken reports very satisfactory progress. There are still a few vacancies in the chorus for both male and female voices.
