.Nearly everyone in the Glen Oroua, and Rongotea districts knows Mr J. Costall of “Boston Farm.” The old gentleman is in his eighty-fourth year, and is full of vitality. lie is perhaps the best known figure in the ailniinistraiive affairs on the executive of the Presbyterian Church in this district. Distance and weather conditions is no obstacle to his attendance on church affairs, and lie enters into the discussions and debates —for which administrative bodies of this particular denomination are noted —with a vim that would put a, professional politician in the shade. Despite his great; age, his intellect is as keen as any of his comparative juvenile brethren, while physically he is as active as most men of ha I I-a,-century. He is a voracious reader, and is well versed in all matters of general public interest. “Father” Costall holds a high place in the esteem of all with whom he is acquainted.

Commenting' on our article dis-r-villfiv<> of a (rip through the o(aki Gorge, the Ota lei Moil soys: “We wonder how many resident s of Ota Id and district are acquainted with the beauties of the Ota Id Gorge! If the truth were known, the great majority of our local people have never taken the trouble to make a trip up the Gorge and on, joy the unexcelled loveliness of the river and forest scenery in that locality. Strange that we never —or very rarely—hear anything about the “majestic surrounding's” of the Gorge! The fact seems to he that our local people are lacking in interest and patriotism, so far as their own district is concerned. We would suggest that all who have not yet become acquainted with the locality should make it their business to pay it a visit without delay, and when they come back, delighted and uplifted by the sights they have seen and enjoyed —as they must be, if not utterly devoid of the sense of appreciation of the grandeur and entrancing beauty of our New Zealand river, mountain and forest scenery —let them tell their friends, and advertise the many attractions of the Ofaki Gorge so little known to sight-seers. The Gorge should attract a great many visitors and prove a valuable asset to the district.”
