A WAR PROPHESY.
AFTER an elaborate and painstaking inquiry into many stories of prophecies ot Ihe present war, M. Maurice Maeterliuch, writing' in the Paris Figaro, cites one as being best worthy of attention. It is that of the Cure of Ars (near Metz), named Baptiste Vianney. He was endowed with remarkable properties as a medium. His prophecy was known in 18(50 two or three mouths after his deatli, and was printed in 1872. Of the present war tie wrote: —The enemy will not completely go away at once. Our assailants will return again and destroy everything on their passage. They will not be resisted, but will be allowed to advance. After that their food supplies will be cut off. They will experience heavy losses, and will retire to their own country, where they will be followed, and there will be lew of them that will - return. There will be taken from .them all that (hey have carried away, and even much more. The Cure of Ars specified Ihe date of the fullihuent of the prophecy by saying that there would be a. wish to canonise him, but that, there would not be time. Now, Vianney was to have been canonised in duly .11)14, but the canonisation was postponed.
