PROPOSED NEW SCHOOL.
AT MAROTIRI.
For some time past there has been an agitation among the settlers at Marotiri for the erection of a school in that locality, and Mr J. Chrystall has offered a suitable site for the pr’oposed new school to the Education Board at a small price. At first it was suggested that the present school at Moutoa should be shifted to Marotiri, it being contended that the latter was the most central and convenient position. The settlers at the Moutoa, end, however, were much opposed to the school being shifted, and a depul ation consisting of Messrs W. S. Carter and H. (Jreig waited on the Board at a mealing some months ago and protested against the building being shifted as suggested. The residents of Marotiri have since kept the matter before flic Board, and on Tuesday Messrs T. I>| Strong (senior inspector), Fred. Pirani and A If. Fraser (Board members) and \V. 11. Swangcr (secretary) visited the locality in connection with same. About twenty-five residents met the party and the whole question was exhaustively discussed. It was stated that there were GO children who would attend a school at, Marotiri, and it was contended that the number of children in the district justified Ihe erection of a, new school at I hat place. After gaining all the information possible, the party returned to Foxton, and a report will be submitted at the next meeting of the Board.
The site of the proposed new school is about four and a-quarter miles from Fox ton and about three and a-half miles from Moutoa.
