RALLY.
These verses were written by Miss Lois Lathlean, a little girl not yet in her teens, and recently appeared in an edition of an Adelaide paper ; Why don’t you join the forces — You men so strong and brave — To light for Britain’s honour, And many a life to save? Wake up, wake up, ye slothful, Throw off your dreams and see That all the men worth owning Have gone right willingly. When Britain wins the struggle, Her sons with victory come ; Will you be ashamed by saying That you just, stayed at home? Spite of your country’s trouble, You lay with lips fast sealed, And heeded not the moans from The bloody battlefield. With great shells bursting o’er them They kept the foe at bay; While you, who never sa w them, At home in safety lay. Wake up, wake up, ye slothful, .Join in the dreadful fray ; Give help to dear old England, As only brave men may. Go forth, and fight for righteousness ! You strong men must, and can Earn the right to use that name — Inspiring title- —’.Man !
