IN AID OF THE NAVAL FUND.
A STATE SCHOOL EFFORT. A combined meeting of the local School Committee and teaching si aft was held in the school yesterday afternoon for the purpose of discussing a children’s scheme to assist the Naval Fund for the benefit of the dependants of those lost in the Jutland battle. There were present :Mcssrs Ilurnhlow (chairman), Rev. Bmlin, Dr. Mandl and He. Murray, and the following members of the stall' : Messrs Jackson (head Icachcr), Gahitcs, Ait ken, Misses Priee, Moxham and Hare. Air Hornhiow saiil Dr. Mandl had brought up Ihe subject of a children's elfort in aid of the object above-mentioned at last committee meeting, and the presenl conference was decided upon in order to ascertain tin 1 mind of (lie staff. Dr Mandl said he thought the children, not only of this school, hut through mu the Empire, should make an effort to show their practical sympathy with flic dependants of (iiose who had lost (heir lives in the recent, naval battle. He had no fixed idea as to what nature the effort should lake, hut made certain suggestions, one of which might he carried out.
Air Jackson said he had conferred with the staff on the subject, and they would be pleased to assist iu the matter. After further discussion, it was resolved to hold a children’s fair on the* afternoon of AVednesday, July 19lh, in the school quadrangle. Parents are to he circularised asking them to send along gifts for sale. Afternoon tea is to he supplied and squad drill and choruses will lie given by the cadets and pupils. The lady teachers and senior girls will supervise the refreshments, and Air Gahitcs the drills and other items. Air Jackson consented to act as general supervisor. It was decided to ask the Borough Band to assist in the procession with the cadets. Other arrangements wore left in (he hands of Air Jackson and the staff.
