HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.
The first meeting of file newlyelected committee of the above Society was held on Tuesday night. There was a good attendance, presided over by the president (Mr P. (I. Jackson).
Dates of the Shows were fixed as follows : Bulb Show, Tuseday, September 12th. ; Spring Show, Thursday and Friday, November 80lh and December Ist. ; Autumn Show, March Ist and 2nd, 1917.
The schedule for the Bulb Show was discussed at length, the result being what should prove a most attractive bill-of-fare. A special feature will be the addition of a section for those not having won prizes at any bulb show, and for which .Mr \V. E. Barber has donated a handsome trophy, value £l, as a points prize. The classes in this section will be as follow : 1, Collections narcissi; 2, collections anemones ; 3, collections snowflakes ; 4, fresias ; 5, hyacinths ; (5 violets ; 7, polyanthus ; 8, pansies ; }), primroses ; 10, stocks.
A section for pot plants Ims been added, also a section for fruit and vegetables. Liberal prizes have been donated for the children’s decorated classes, and for the children's cookery classes. The following ladies and gentlemen have generously donated special prizes : Mrs Woods ss, Mrs C. Symon- ss, Mrs P. (i. Jackson ss, Mi>s Speirs 2s (id, Mrs Renton 10s (id, Mr Renton lbs (id, Mr Shader IDs, Mr Pearson 10s, Mr Hornhlow os, Mr P. G. Jaekson 7s (id, Mr H. C. Patterson (trophy) 7s (id, Air John Ross ss, Air Galland ss, Air .Me,Murray ss, Air Symons 7s fid, Mr F. D. Whihley ss, Air Ashmore ss. It was deeided to alter the condition referring to (he cost of Imlbs in the Citizens’ Trophy competition as follows : “The varieties not to cost more than 2s (id per Imlh according lo any New Zealand catalogue.” It was resolved that the cookery class he left in the hands of the cookery instructress, and that arrangements he made for (he cooking to be carried out in the Town Hall supper-room under a supervisor. The entries for the Bulb Show to close the night before the Show. Mr I). W. Mathesoii signified his willingness to donate a special prize in a class to be deeided upon for competition among members only, with the object of increasing the
membership. Other formal business was transacted, and the meeting rose.
