SCHOOL COMMITTE.
The monthly mooting of (he above was held in the sehoolhousc on Tuesday evening. Present: Messrs Hovnhlow (chairman), Rev. J. H. Bredin, Hr. Mandl, Hussey, Perreau, McColl, Woods, and R. McMurray (secrelary). The secretary reported a credit balance of £23 Ills 3d. (‘orrespdiulence was read from the Education Board asking that the Committee furnish an eslimaie re cost of sinking well and erecting pump and trough for the horse paddock, and wind amount (he Committee would conlrihafe lo same. Mr McColl said 1 he cost would he about £l2. Hi’ Mandl said arrangements should he made to ensure the horses gelling a supply of wafer during the summer months. He asked whether the water could not he supplied to the 1 rough from (he windmill pump in the garden.
The Chairman said the well that supplied the water for the windmill was not deep enough, and during (he summer months there was barely sufficient water for the gardens. A trough could he erected to he tilled from (ho tanks. The Committee could not assist iinauciallv.

It was resolved to forward an estimate of the work to the Board, and to state that the Commit lee could not assist linancially. The head teacher’s report; was read and received. The Board uotilted the Committee Unit an (‘lection of Board members would lake place on Wednesday, July HHli, and that nominations would close on the 28th instant. The Foxl.on school was in the Soul hern Ward, which latter would elect two Board representative-;. The members would he elected by Ihe school committees. Afler some discussion, a moiioiu was moved and seconded that the Committee nominate Ihe Chairman he one of Ihe candidates for tin* Southern Bard. Mr Hornblow stated he had already noniinaied the silting member, Mr Fraser. He staled, further, that (he sacrifice of time in attending Board meetings at Wanganui would he more than he could afford. If (lie meetings were held af Palmerston, he would willingly offer his services. He had taken a keen interest in educational mailers belli under this and the Wellington Board, and hm experiences amply qua Idled him for the position. While thanking the Committee, he asked that the motion lie withdrawn. It was decided to hold, the mailer over in order 1» make further investigations. Accounts amounting to £ls A- 2d were passed for payment. Mr McColl submitted an estimate for septic tanks, which he said would cost about £25(1. Mr McColl was thanked for the trouble lie had gone to in the matter, and the Committee decided to take no further act ion at present. Hr Maud! and Mr McColl were appointed visitors for tin* month. I)r .Mandl said he understood that school children were to hr asked W set apart July Kbit for the purpose of assisting the fund for the dependants of those who had taken part in the Jutland naval halt! I '. He was of opinion that the local school children should he asked to do something in this eoinieciion. It was decided to confer with the teaching staff on the subject at 2 p.m. on Frida v.
