HARNESSING THE MANGAHAO RIVER.

Mr W. 11. Field. M. P.. recent ly asked the Mini-ter o: Public Works whether the necessary survey in connection with the suggested harnessing of the Mangahao River for electric supply purposes has yet been completed and a. report made thereon, the matter being one of vital interest to settlers and residents along the Manawatu line. The Hon. Mr Fraser, -Minister for Public Works, in reply -aid : The survey of the Mangahao River for water-power development purposes has been eompleied. and plans of the same are now being prepared, but no lina! report has yet been made. The investigations so far indicate that this scheme possesses a greater value than was originally estimated, and it will be considered as a possible scheme for the general supply of Wellington and the southern portion of the North Island, not merely as one for country in the vicinity of the Manawatu line.
