PATRIOTIC SOCIETY.
The monthly meeting of Hie Patriotic Society was held on Thursday evening last, the president, Mr All. Fraser, in Hie chair, and a iair number of members present. It was decided to contribute £lO monthly to the fund now being raised by the various patriotic societies to provide extra comforts for our wounded and sick in Egypt and England. £II.OOO per month is being sent forward, and now that the troops are lighting in France it is doubtful if this amount will suffice. The local Society is forwarding £7O at once, being the quota to the end of 1916.
■With regard to the Military Service Bill, the following resolution was carried ; “That as a National Military Service Bill is being considered by the House of Representatives, and the Recruiting Board has stated that a complete National Register is essential to the success ol the Bill, this society undertakes to see that (he National Register, so far as it concerns this district, is complete." It was also decided to arrange, if possible, to meet the Borough Council on Wednesday next with reference to formulating a scheme to carry out Hie work.
A resolution expressing deep regret at the untimely death of Lord Kitchener, and appreciation of his great services to the British Empire, was carried. The matter of hold-
ing l a memorial service to the memory of Lord Kitchener was discussed, und it was decided to ash each denomination to set aside Sunday evening to this purpose, and the minister in charge of each church has been requested to, if possible, carry out this idea. The credit balance in hand was announced sis £!)7(i 15s sd, The total amount received to date from the Patriotic Shop is £18(i Is Id, which is an average of £7 15s (hi per week. The three collections of the Patriotic boxes has realised £t)B Is Id.
The Patriotic Shop last Saturday was under the charge of Mrs Baker and Miss Speirs, who did excellent business.-- Gifts are gratefully acknowledged from the following : —Mesdames C. Kobinson, Misses Littlejohn, O. Nye, Messrs W. Ross, J. 6. and K. A. Speirs, W. Nye, Oxley, Huntley, O. Kobinson, Walker and Eurrie, Greig. To-day Mesdames Chas. .Kobinson and Chas. Preston are .in charge of the Patriotic Shop, and are doing good business.
