BREACHES OF LICENSING ACT.

PROHIBITED PERSONS IN POSSESSION OF LIQUOR.

At the Magistrate's Court yesterday morning, before Mr J. \V. Boynton, S.M., Harry Hoskins, a, prohibited person, was charged with (1) being found on licensed premises during the currency of a prohibition order, ami (2) with being found in possession of liquor whilst prohibited. Accused pleaded guilty to both charges. The Magistrate inflicted a fine of £5, with costs 7s, for being found in possession of liquor, and convicted and discharged accused on the other count, both charges being connected with one another. Three months were allowed in which to payOtho Barber, who did not appear, was also charged wit! - . 't'; found in possession of liquor ....ring - the currency of a prohibition order, and a line of £5, with costs 7s, was inflicted. SUPPLYING LIQUOR TO A PROHIBITED PERSON. Charles Beaston was charged with supplying liquor to Harry Hoskins, a prohibited person. Accused did not appear.

Constable Hanlon stated that he imd occasion to go to the rear of Whyte's Hotel, and heard voices in the urinal. He heard one man, Avhoui he recognised as Hoskins, say : ‘Til Avail, here,” Beaston replying, “I won’t be tAvo minutes.” Beaston then Avent into the hotel, and returned Avith something concealed under his coal, lie took this to Hoskins, and returned to the hotel. Witness took possession of the liquor, and then went and asked Beaston for an explanation. Beaston denied tin* charge at. first, but afterAvards asked (hat the offence be overlooked this lime. The Magistrate lined accused £5, Avith costs 7s, three months being allowed in which to pay the money. Mr Boynton said ho wished to give a warning that in future the maximum penalty would be imposed in cases of the kind. These offences Avere far too prevalent.
