SILLY CRITICISM.

OCR Palmerston morning contemporary has, for some reason best known to itself, been dealing with the Royal Commission re the proposed transfer of the Foxton wharf from (he Railway Department to the Harbour Board, in a jocular vein. Our contemporary says, “does any body imagine that a soul outside the borough of Foxton mires a hoot whether the Railway Department or the Harbour Board manages (he local wharf ?” The writer who penned, those words is either ignorant of the history of the port and its past administration or is attempting an ill-timed joke at (he expense of the town xvhere he seeks his existence, and mists a slur on those public-spirited- men who tor years and at great personal sacrifice, have devoted their energies t<> right a glaring wrong. If the money which

has been earned and filched from the port to swell the revenue of the working railways account had been spent on the waterway, the local port to-day would be a busy shipping centre of immense commercial importance to Palmerston and the districts beyond. This is apparent to any one with average intelligence, and we predict that such flippant comment will be appraised at its real value by the Commissioners.
