PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH.
It has long been the opinion of the executive of the Eoxton charge of the Presbyterian Church that the district is too large-for one minister to attend to. In the Lev Mr Aitken’s time it extended from Eoxton in the south to Carnarvon, Glen Oroua, Tiakitahuna and Rangiotu. Carnarvon was subsequently added to the Bulls charge. During the Lev. -1. M. Thomson’s supervision of the district, despite improved means of locomotion, it was still considered too scattered, and a movement was set afoot to divide the charge into two home mission stations, to include Eoxton in the south and Rangiotu, Glen Oroua and Tiakitahuna in the north. Meetings were held in each centre to discuss the proposal, and a Preshyterial Commission was set up to take evidence and report, consisting of the Revs. Budd and Doull, who met the congregations in each centre. The proposal to divide the district as suggested was not sustained by the congregations, but (he opinion was expressed that Tiakitahuna' should be attached to Palmerston. The Commission’s linding to Presbytery was that the district should remain as at present. Since then a now distract has been added to Palmerston, and it was thought opportune to merge Tiakitahuna into it. At the last meeting of the executive of the Eoxton charge, the following motion was carried : “That the committee agrees to the proposed disjoining of Tiakitahuna congregation from the Eoxton charge from June 30th, 15)1(5.” A meeting of the Tiakitahuna congregation was held on Monday night, the Rev. J. H. Bredin, moderator, presiding, when the resolutions passed by the kirk session and executive committee were submitted and unanimously affirmed. Complimentary references were made to the moderator by Messrs McCully and Matheson, and regret expressed at the circumstances which precluded him from carrying on his work at that end of the district.
The severance of Tiakitahuna from the Eoxton charge will he submitted to Presbytery at its next meeting for continuation or otherwise.
