RECRUITING.
STILL A SHORTAGE. There is still a shortage in the Infantry for the 15th and 10th Reinforcements, but recruiting throughout the Dominion has improved considerably of late. ROLL OF ELIGIBLES OF LITTLE USE. Napier, May 8. At to-day’s County Council meeting the chairman, Mr T, E. Crosse, said the Government roll of eligibles for active service was badly prepared, and was of little use in. recruiting. The council were going to appoint local committees to prepare a roll of each locality, so that the recruiting officer would have his work made as easy as possible. PARLIAMENT WILL DO ITS .. DUTY. Christchurch, May 8. The Hon. A. T. Maginnity, M.L.C., Nelson, at the invitation of the Mayor of Christchurch, addressed a mass meeting in Cathedral Square on Saturday evening. He implored the eligible men to at once volunteer for active service, and not allow it to be said of them that their services were only given on compulsion. They were wanted now, without delay. He promised them there and then that if they would do their duty to their King and country, Parliament Avould do its duty by them.
